An antidote to the cycle of violence in Africa by Dr. Herber Ainamani
Globally, the number of refugees suffering from war trauma continues to grow, leaving many civilians in
a vulnerable state of health and social economic conditions that propel them to fight back.
Although forced migration has been earmarked as a global public health concern, the phenomena’s
correlation with the “cycle of violence” has not been extensively explored by different stakeholders
involved in peace and conflict studies, mental health clinicians and policymakers.
This paper provides the evidence base surrounding unpleasant experiences faced by the refugees, the
impact these experiences bear on their health, how this severe trauma leads to the cycle of violence and
the proposed interventional models.
This paper is hoped to stimulate the discourse about incorporating interventions geared towards
preventing the cycle of violence in post-conflict settings
