Global WELLs of Refugees: Places of Healing and Reconciliation Cathy Sigmund, Ph.D., CWM, CCTP
This paper presents Global WELLs of Refuge, an initiative that addresses health and human
service inequities within ethnic minoritized, refugee, and immigrant groups through intracultural
and intercultural wellness education, training, and community-based leadership. As every
community needs a well, or water source, WELLs of Refuge highlight the crucial role of ethnic
community leaders, churches, community centers and other social gathering places in serving as
a WELL, or source of Wellness Education for Lay Leaders, and a source of compassion,
intracultural and/or intercultural care, and communal healing.
